Urban Slice — Making the Most of a Tiny Urban Plot

n a rapidly urbanising city like Kochi, finding a plot large enough to build a comfortable home is becoming increasingly difficult. Most available residential plots are often as small as 4 or 5 cents, challenging conventional ideas of what a spacious home can be.

Urban Slice is our response to this reality.

Designed for a compact urban plot in Kakkanad, Kochi, Urban Slice explores how thoughtful planning, natural light, ventilation, and carefully designed spaces can transform a tiny plot into a home that feels remarkably generous.

The ground floor brings together the essential spaces of everyday living while maintaining a sense of openness. It includes a master bedroom with an attached bathroom, foyer, living area, dining space, and kitchen, along with a courtyard connected directly to the living space. This sunlit courtyard becomes the heart of the home, bringing natural light, greenery, and a sense of the outdoors deep into the interior.

The front yard is designed to accommodate two cars, making efficient use of the limited site area without compromising the entrance experience. The bedrooms are planned with attached bathrooms, while the additional bedrooms are complemented by dedicated study spaces, including provisions for a single bed allowing each room to adapt to the changing needs of its occupants.

Despite the compact footprint, every space is carefully positioned to receive ample natural light and cross ventilation. Openings, courtyards, and spatial connections work together to create a home that feels breathable, bright, and connected to nature.

Urban Slice demonstrates that a small plot does not have to mean a small feeling home. Through intelligent space planning and a focus on light, air, greenery, and everyday functionality, the project creates a sense of spaciousness that reveals itself the moment you step inside.
