An architecture and engineering consultancy founded in Kozhikode in 2015, with active practices in India, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
The Studio
URU Consulting was founded in 2015 in Kozhikode, Kerala, by four partners who shared a single conviction: that architecture and engineering practiced as separate disciplines produces worse outcomes for clients and worse buildings for the world. The firm began with residential and hospitality work in Kerala, and grew through a decade of projects that were published internationally and recognised by critics and peers across South Asia and the Middle East.
In 2025, the practice formalised its Gulf presence by establishing URU Design Services LLC in Dubai, a registered UAE entity serving clients across the GCC and MENA region. The firm now operates active projects in India, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
The name URU carries weight that is not accidental. It is the ancient Dravidian root for place, settlement, and belonging: the idea that architecture is not an object placed in a landscape, but an act of making a place where none existed before. Every project URU undertakes is held to that standard.

Founding Timeline
2015
Founded in Kozhikode, Kerala, by four partners. Architecture and engineering integrated under one practice from day one.
2018
Pallak Heritage Resort: first major hospitality commission. Architecture, landscape and interiors resolved as a single design act.
2019
Box House: first internationally published project. Convention Centre at Kayamkulam designed and delivered.
2020
Victory Residence: 7,000 sqft renovation and remodelling for a doctor couple, completed within six months during COVID lockdown.
2021
Matter Merit Award longlisted. Published in STIRworld, Archello, The Architects Diary, Volume Zero and others.
2022
Practice deepens across residential and mixed-use sectors. Featured in Rethinking The Future.
2024
House Beneath a Jackfruit Tree: the firm's most refined integration of tropical landscape and architecture to date.
2025
URU Design Services LLC registered in Dubai. Active projects commenced in UAE and Saudi Arabia.
2026
Active practices in India, UAE and KSA. Long-term institutional strategy adopted.
Our Ideology
Architecture and engineering are not separate services that happen to share a building. At URU, they are resolved by the same team, from the first sketch. The consequence is not a smoother process. It is a fundamentally different kind of building: one where structure, space and environment are resolved together, without the friction that separate appointments introduce and the client ultimately pays for.
Every project is measured on a timeline longer than its completion date. The question we ask is not how a building looks on the day of handover, but what it becomes over fifty years. Materials are selected for durability, not cost at tender. Structural systems are designed for adaptability, not the minimum section. This is not an aesthetic preference. It is an ethical one.
The built environment is not neutral. Design and engineering are forms of intervention in how people live, work, move and relate to each other. A poorly ventilated house affects the health of the people who live in it. A public space designed for surveillance rather than occupation fails the community it was built to serve. We take that responsibility seriously, and we carry it into every brief we accept.
